About WAHAHA

WAHAHA Japanese Language School is committed to teaching Japanese that can be used naturally in everyday life.  Our classes do not focus on grammar alone, but also encourage awareness of correct usage situations and speaking styles.  In addition, WAHAHA's small class sizes enable instructors to actively communicate with all students, resulting in an enjoyable learning experience.

On the first day of school all students complete a level check followed by counselling.

The level check consists of a 60 to 90 minute grammar test and a 30 minute interview.  Results are used to determine the student's ability level and discover weak spots.  Immediately following the test, teacher and student review the answers together with emphasis on explanation of mistakes.  Improvement suggestions are given and the direction of future lessons is decided.

Counselling involves the discussion of student goals and areas of interest.  Taking level check results into consideration, students are divided into classes according to ability, thereby facilitating an effective learning environment.

Classes from Monday to Thursday focus on grammar, with Friday classes reserved for conversation lessons.  Friday's conversation topics are based upon situations students may encounter in daily life.

While English explanations of new concepts are necessary for beginners, we actively encourage learning Japanese in Japanese once a student's ability is sufficient.

Previous grammar is incorporated alongside new grammar to help reinforce understanding.

Lessons do not strictly adhere to textbook formulas, instead flowing organically to allow for an unconstrained teaching atmosphere.

Conversations classes make use of role-playing to help promote correct understanding of both formal and casual expressions.

"Out Lessons" may also be organized.  These classes are held outside school, involve activities such as shopping, ordering at a restaurant, etc., and serve to reinforce knowledge in a practical manner.

Following course completion, a certificate of achievement can be provided upon request.

We provide our students with an active curriculum of utmost quality. The main purpose of our curriculum is not just grammar. We teach students to properly use Japanese in daily conversation. We feel it’s difficult for students to simply learn by “listening”, “reading”, “pronunciating”, etc, so we have designed an integrated course that balances their studies.

 

Our teachers and staffs try to do their best to help people who truly want to improve their Japanese.

 

Students’ attendance rate at WAHAHA is about 98%.  Everyone is eager to learn and works hard to accomplish his/her goal.  The teachers also work hard to provide curricula that fit each student’s study goal.  As a result, students are satisfied with their achievement through our short-term lessons.

 

Things that only small schools like WAHAHA could do

 

1.  Provide the best learning environment.  Students come from different countries, with different occupations and are at various ages.   However, everyone is eager to learn.  WAHAHA provides the best learning environment for each student to accomplish his/her goal.

 

2.  Divide lessons into different levels.  We do not put students with different level of Japanese proficiency into the same class and because of that, sometimes students get one on one lessons even though they sign up for group lessons.  The usual group lessons are small as well, consisting 2~3 students at a time.

 

3.  Communication with students.  We understand the importance of counseling and we communicate with each student on a constant basis to help solving learning problems.

 

4.  Diverse programs.  In order to match students’ goals, we provide diverse programs, e.g. JLPT lessons, business lessons, working holiday program, internship program).

 

5.  Provide useful information.  Besides the information in textbooks, we provide supplementary learning materials and other information that are useful to daily life in Japan, accomplish personal study goals and/or further self studies.

 

6.  Experienced teachers.  The teachers at our school are professionals in teaching Japanese language and on top of that, they have excelled their career in the society.  Therefore, students can learn many things other than the language itself from the teachers.
